Today We Celebrate Another Great Man's Existence...

Posted by HelloWhen we were all at the Roller Derby, I had to run get something from the concession stand, Kate volunteered to save my seat for me (she later told me she had been waiting all night for a chance to sit by the Janx) (Coy doesn't look too upset about the seating arrangment either though).

I'm not sure how long this post will be up, I don't know how many laws I may have just broken.

Let's Have a Confusatronathon

Still no word from the hipsters.

I like to think that it's because I had to scribble down my address in such a hurry.

They're just having a tough time discerning my handwriting.

Maybe they're even periodically emailing messages to the different possible interpretations for what I wrote... and they just haven't gotten to the right one yet.

They were pretty hip, maybe they don't even do email... maybe someday I'll be that hip.

Or maybe they're ex-hackers who got caught and now they aren't allowed within 200 yards of a computer terminal. (I decided "computer terminal" sounded way cooler in this context than just "computer".)

Yes, these are better thoughts than that they simply don't want to email that guy from the train.

The other night "Alisa" and I went to hear a friend play at the Wreck Room. This friend was actually playing with every band that took the stage.

Remember this name: Matt Skates.

He's simply one of the best bass players ever born (though some might argue that bass players aren't born... to which I reply--okay whatever, he's simply one of the best bass players ever made ... happy?)

The opening band was blue grass-- yeah go ahead and dismiss the mental image that just gave you-- they were actually a couple of thuggy looking rocker guys who happen to play the banjo and the mandolin (I think?) and Matt played the standing bass. It was a blast.

The guy who played the mandolin opened for this opening act by playing some rocking solo acoustic guitar. Very talented, very entertaining.

Then the group that made my night took the stage.

Click here for one of the crappiest web pages you'll ever see... of one of the most entertaining bands you'll ever hear.

That's right: Confusatron.

Eight guys on stage, each of them ninjas of music (okay, that doesn't quite work) but everyone on stage was really getting after it... while also managing not to overdo it.

They played fantastically and managed to keep promoting and featuring each other in the music. They played for an hour and a half or so, and I wasn't ready for them to stop when they did.

That's the first time I've ever heard a local group and not been kind of glad it was ending (I've heard a lot of good local groups... but after 3 or 4 songs it starts to sound the same-- not Confusatron!)

Remember them. Hear them. Love them.

They were followed by a reggae band called...? I think it was Pablo and the Hemp Hill Seven.

Cool name.

To be honest... reggae all sounds the same to me. Bob Marley is fun to put on every so often, but I'm not fluent enough in local government to get anything out of Pablo's lyrics. Matt was playing trombone, but we couldn't really hear it, so we left after about 3 songs.

It'd be tough to follow Confusatron, but Matt was saying Pablo actually draws the crowd.

Interesting.

Well, Confusatron keep it up, we had a wonderful time.

And Matt Skates, I'll say I knew him when...

Happy Mother's Day

I'd like to take a moment and let everybody know that my mom could beat up your mom.

Seriously, I've got the greatest mom in the world. Actually, I probably have the coolest parents in general. But today is about Mom.

Thanks, Mom for being so great. For thinking I'm an interesting person and having confidence that someday I'll do something worth mentioning to the Ladies' Bible study.

Living in your attic for the past 38 years has been really cool, I can't imagine ever leaving.

Love you,
Shad
