Job So Far

Per request, I'll post a little about how my new job has been going.

So far, so good.

I think I like the people I work with. They seem to like me pretty good too.

Interesting humor mistranslations... or something:

A girl commented on... I think it had to do with my being early, I don't remember the context exactly but she said, "That's good, so I guess you're not a cereal drinker."

At least that's what I heard, so I responded, genuinely confused, "What...? Like the milk from the bowl?"

Again, I was just trying to understand her comment, but they thought that was FUNNY. Apparently she was saying I wasn't a serial drinker... as in, an alcoholic.

Anyway, even understanding the misunderstanding... that is obviously not that funny (I'm sure at least my readership would agree). But I'm not kidding, I even had someone come up to me the next day and say they told their dad about it and, I quote, "He busted out laughing saying, 'That's like something I would say!' And it's so true! He would've said something like that!"

I mean, I'm flattered, and I love that they got such a kick out of it, and I know it says a lot about how well we're all getting along. So I'm not bashing it, but as for why that's so funny... yeah, I don't get it either.

But this, on the other hand:

Apparently a body was found on the driving range of a local golf-course here.

When they were telling me about it, it was something they were shocked I hadn't heard. "You haven't?! Well, when was it again?... Anyway, a transient's body... it was a female... was just found on the golf course one morning. During the night they think someone dropped her off there. They don't have any idea how she died."

"Are they sure it wasn't a driving accident?"

That, was apparently NOT funny.

Even though you didn't mean it as a joke the cereal thing was kinda funny, in a "dad joke" kinda way. It's funnier to me in the context of it not being a joke but a question of clarification that ended up being like a joke.

However that driving accident quip was hilarious. How did you not slay with that? Bad taste, scmad schmaste.

Yeah, maybe you're right.

I was confused because they were acting like they thought I was seriously joking (about the cereal thing), and that it was SO funny, but I guess if they understood what was really going on... the misunderstanding... that makes more sense... and certainly is funnier.

Glad you liked the driving quip...

I don't know know why they didn't laugh at the driving comment. I couldn't stop laughing. You must be in the wrong part of the country for that kind of humour.

I must also add my "I don't know why"...I immediately relayed both jokes and the cereal one needed explanation, but the golf one was a big hit.

At best, lets assume two golf carts find themselves coming head on with one another. Considering there's hardly any open space that would allow for a stealthy manuever, and that their top speeds of 25 mph probably didn't give them time to think of what appropriate action to take.....yeah, I could TOTALLY see how it could be a "driving" accident!....psh..and they didn't think that was funny!

When I pretend that this tragedy wasn't at a nearby golf course - it makes it at least 20X more hilarious. I too relayed the joke and share many more laughs.
you are one witty fella
