Ghost Town Fireworks
I've had a wonderful 4th of July.
Spent a day on a boat on a lake, with good people, meeting good people, and eating good food.
When the evening came around we toted a bunch of snacks and blankets across a golf course and took the best seats for a wonderful show.
It's magical how everyone is beautiful by the light of fireworks.
----------------------
Almost all personal fire-crackers and such are illegal in the state of Colorado (other than black cats and sparklers and those little, white pop-snap things you throw).
But that doesn't mean people won't get the fireworks they aren't allowed to have (the Wyoming border is populated with entrepreneurs who've discovered this need). So all night you can hear these illegal spectacles going on all around you.
Well, I was driving through a nearby neighborhood, to check on my friend's dog, and I drove right into a strange and surreal experience...
Apparently people didn't hesitate to break these firework laws right out in the streets in front of their homes... but at the first sign of an approaching automobile... they leave the scene, even if that means missing their own show.
If you're in that approaching automobile you'll find yourself driving down a neighborhood street aglow with flashes and sparkles of various fountains, and literally having to manuever around the different sources of showers of sparks and exploding orbs of color... beautiful...
...And not a soul to be seen.
It's as though you're driving down a road that the people have long since abandoned... and something otherworldly is putting on a show.

:) I noticed the "best" seats part....thanks Shad. Considering I lead everyone across the entire span of the golf course to get there, I was hoping someone would agree with me on it being the best and worth the added effort! Truth is, maybe there are better seats somewhere, but what makes these seats the best for me is that it's where we've always gone since I was little.....and it just has a way of rekindling that childhood wonder inside! I'm glad I got to spend it with the ones I did!
FABULOUS SEATS!!!! wonderful snack! extra soft grass coupled with the best of company!
About the ghost town - brings a whole new twist to the "Hide from the Cars" game (for those of you that haven't played, ask Shad for game rules - it's pretty complex).
Let's just say I'm getting some exciting ideas for next year...
that's pretty sneaky courtney. tricking me and getting my clicking-finger's hopes up like that...
Coy,I've thought about your comment for several minutes now, and the only thing that comes to mind is that your "clicking-finger" represents Dorothy's red slippers in the Wizard of Oz and that you were implying you wanted to be here in Colorado by simply clicking your finger and repeating, "there's no place like the best seats in Colorado with Shad, Sharon, Courtney, Wayne, Christina, Brooke and Monica on the 4th of July!"....but then, I don't understand the 'sneaky' part...
I didn't understand it at first either... until I tried to go to your "website" very, very sneaky Court...
By the way Courtney, you should click on "Coy"s name, and see what is supposed to happen when you make your name a hyperlink... (tehe tehe)
hahaha! I totally forgot I did that:) And now the whole coffee shop knows for I bursted forth in laughter at my own sneakiness that snuck by me:)Well done Courtney, well done.
All that talk made me wish I would have been there.
that whole exchange was so awesome! yeah i didn't want to come right out and say what was sneaky and take all the fun out of people finding it on their own.
by the way...apparently ivebeenhad.com is coming soon so i will keep checking back
that was fun :)
No Coy, apparently that was my job.
Agreed - lot's of fun! And Shad....job well done:)
shad, your input was well-timed as always. we are a good team. i'm the setup and you're the payoff. it def would not have been funny at all if you hadn't come along and done your job. i was banking on it in fact
agreed, considering I didn't even know what I'd done.
